Our world has become a disposable one. Mankind seems to have chosen convenience over the health of our earth. Disposable products are the norm. Use it, toss it, it’s all so easy. We ignore the repercussions, and we will regret it.
The majority of our waste can be and should be recycled. Most of these disposable products do not fall in that category. From disposable cameras to facial cleansers, there seems to be a wasteful version of almost every product. Why is this? Do we really think we are saving money buying a new camera every time we take 24 pictures? For those who do not know, a good digital with a decent sized memory card can take several hundred pictures that are of much higher quality than their disposable counterparts, and they are also cheaper in the long run.
A styrofoam cup takes over 50 years to decompose, why does this crap exist? Some claim styrofoam cups are better for the environment because they consume less energy while being produced. I feel this in no way makes up for the fact that they all end up in a landfill after one stupid use. I dissed a couple of kids that had a lemonade stand the other day because they were using styrofoam cups. It’s not that I didn’t want some of that sweet lemony nectar, it’s just bloody wasteful. You should diss them as well.
Bottled water has become one of my pet peeves. For some reason it seems it has become cool to drink 600ml bottles of water and uncool to drink tap water. The Brita water filter is my hero. It turns my nasty city water into something drinkable. Just replace a filter every two or three months and you are good.
You could make the argument that plastic water bottles are 100% recyclable. Sure they are, but it requires plenty of energy to make them in the first place, and more energy of course, to melt them all down and turn them into yet another bottle. Why not just have one permanent water bottle that you refill with filtered tap water?
Fast food… as if it wasn’t enough of a waste already. A waste of animal’s lives, a waste of teenagers time, a waste of a healthy body, and just simply a waste of space. Fast food is also the God of disposable products. In 80% of cases, everything on that plastic tray ends up in the garbage, but even when they do give you the choice of separating your waste, don’t necessarily be fooled.
I was a fast food employee in my past life, as much as I hate to admit it. I saw the cleaners do their garbage runs. They would take the compost, put it in the recyclables, and take the recyclables, and put them in the garbage bag.One easy to carry bag for the landfill! They of course keep the bottles, since in most places on Earth, there is a deposit involved. For profit it’s worth recycling, I guess. Maybe they should figure out a way to put a deposit on everything. Make it worth recycling, as if the health of our planet is not enough incentive.
Far too many products are being used and tossed on one use every single day. Do what you can to get away from these products, and encourage the people around you to do the same.

that’s great that you’re all for not using disposable product but do u have any other solutions that would make not using them, more convienient? It defintly is easier to use disposables but the main fact is that people today like moving at a fast pace. What if we have no choice in the matter? Such as wanting to stay on top of the latest fashions in clothing, shoes, & accessories, or being required to buy school text books & supplies? Disposables arent all just about the little one time use product. How do we know or find out if what we’re buying is earth friendly?
another off topic question: when did our society decide it was ok to manufacture disposable product? where did it start and why?
